GENERAL RULES
SUGGESTION FOR
LAPPING
TYPES OF LAPS
Clean workpiece thoroughly before
applying diamond compound |
Cold rolled steel, cast iron (meehanite),
copper, brass, plastic, rock
maple, wood, paper, felt, and cotton. Harder laps are used with the coarser grades of diamond compound, and the softer laps are used with the finer grades of Diamond compound. Harder laps have a faster cutting action, while softer laps have a slower polishing action with a finer finish. |
SELECTION OF GRADE OF DIAMOND COMPOUND
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Normally the harder the workpiece
the higher the concentration of
diamond compound For greater efficiency and economy select concentration of diamond compound based on the hardness of the workpiece. |
Mesh sizes are used for fast cutting,
hogging and ripping operations.
Micron sizes beginning with #45, 30 and 15 are used for Fast, Medium and Light cutting in the proper sequence. Micron sizes #9, 6, 3, 1, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 are used in the proper sequence for intermediate to super finishing. |
